Juarez Monumental Choir prepares for Pope’s visit

The Coro Monumental, the Monumental Choir, has been getting ready to meet Pope Francis for months.

“It’s the first time that the Pope comes to this city, Juarez, and people is [sic] really grateful.” said David Moreno, the choir director.

The hundreds of singers come from all over the city, only the very best will represent the borderland, singing for the Pope’s Mass.

“We have have practiced up to four or five hours a session, but in the end it will all be worth it,” said Estefania Vargas, one of the singers selected.

Saturday’s practice included all the Juarez singers, others from the rest of the borderland will join them next week.

Choir directors say the singers are very dedicated.

“They have a lot of disposition and are ready to go.” said Jennifer Mercado, the choir’s assistant director.

“It’s not every day you get invited to sing for the Pope,” said David Chavez, another singer.
