Mokrasova Breaks School Pentathlon Record With 3,950 Points
College Station, Texas – Lucia Mokrasova tallied 3,950 points in the pentathlon Friday afternoon at the Charlie Thomas Invitational on her way to breaking the school record in the event. Jallycia Pearson (2015) previously held the record with 3,868 points. Mokrasova finished in fourth place in a field of 18 athletes; the 3,950 points scored ranks 13th nationally and No. 1 in Conference USA.
“It was a very good performance. That was the first multi-event she had done for us,” said head coach Mika Laaksonen. “The next time she will do it again will be at conference and I expect her to be even sharper.”
The sophomore started her day off with a time of 8.79 (954 points) in the 60m hurdles. She then progressed onto clearing 1.66m (5-5.25) in the high jump (806 points). The multi-athlete launched the fourth-longest shot put throw of the day with a heave of 12.87m (42-2.75) for 719 points. Her long jump of 5.63m (18-5.75) was the second longest in the field and earned herself 738 points. She rounded out the stunning performance with a time of 2:26.85 in the 800m run (733 points).
The only other two athletes to compete for the Orange and Blue on day one were Kayla Pallares and Evans Kiprono; both runners ran the 5,000m run. Kiprono finished seventh in a field of 19 runners on his way to clocking a personal best time of 14:56.73. Pallares clocked a time of 18:43.81 in her first race as a Miner to finish ninth.
Tomorrow, 29 athletes will spring into action in a wide variety of events beginning at 11:30 a.m. (MT) with the 60m dash.
