parties… with more candidates squaring off tonight. and a major earthquake hits the island of taiwan this morning. the latest on the damage and death tolls so far. and in stormtrack weather, iris! miners will take the floor today against western kentucky… and it’s no ordinary game… the team will honor the 1966 texas western team which won the national title 50 years ago… the 66 team reunited yesterday for a live panel discussion… footage from the discussion will be used in the new documentary… “1966 texa western: champions of change” which will be released this winter … the arrival of the team is already bringing back wonderful memories for miners fans… “i rember as a little boy coming to memorial gym and watching the miners back from the early 70’s and we’ve been loyal fans and season ticket holders ever since.” “i remember dav lattin going up for a dunk and knocking a guy into the stands. he got credit for the points but he also got the foul. it was amazing because he was about three feet above the rim. i was right there. the bleachers went right to the edge of the court. it was awesome.” “we’ wondering how they look and just the chance to possibly talk to them and thank them for what they did. it was wonderful.it’s just too bad that coach haskins and bobby joe hill are not with us because they were the key ingredients on the team, along with the rest of the guys. it’s wonderful to come back and relive all the great moments that happened that year.” abc-7 sports director danny mata wrote an extensive recap of what was discussed at the panel … you can find it on debate. el paso police are asking anyone with information on a convenience store robbery in the northeast to give them a call. the robbery happened last week at a circle k on the 41-hundred block of piedras. security cameras caught these pictures of the suspects. they entered the store just after midnight… yelling at the clerk to give them money and threatening him with a handgun. police say the suspects left with cash, cigarettes and lighters. the suspect with the handgun is described as a light-skinned hispanic male, 5-feet in height, and around 30-years old. the second suspect is only described as a light colored hispanic man, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. anyone with information is asked to call crime stoppers of el paso at 566-8477, that’s 566-tips. u-s border and customs officials say that an attempted robbery turned deadly for two people in downtown el paso. abc-7’s jerry najera was at a news conference for the incident and brings us more. not only are two people dead federal agents are also on administrative leave after this incident. “on thursday at approximately 5:54 p.m.” chie patrol agent jerrrey self says three border patrol agents were patrolling the downtown area near the greyhound bus station. “the agents heard th sounds of gunshot and immediately responded” that’s when agents saw a wounded person on the floor and a man running from the scene. “the three agent persued the subject who approached the pick up truck” they say the man ra to this truck and attempted to carjack the driver at gunpoint. “agents drew their service agent firearms and ordered the subject to drop the weapon. the subject turned towards and pointed his gun at one of the agents” that’ when another agent fired his weapon and struck the man. both men were taken to university medical center ‘hospital officials reported that the victim died at 6:25 and the suspect died at 9:25″ chief self assures the agents were well within their jurisdiction to stop the crime taking place “border patrol agents have authority bestowed on them by congress to conduct enforcement efforts within 25 miles of the international boundary” as with any shootin involving law enforcement the agents will be on administrative leave and will be offered counseling. “this is traumatic event for anyone it would be a traumatic event therefore we want to make sure we have this process available we want to make sure they are taken care of” officials say the investigation is still ongoing. they also tell us el paso police will be leading this investigation. a mother of a chaparral high school student says she’s afraid that other students might be at risk after the school allegedly waited months before acting on reports that a teacher inappropriately touched her daughter. the woman tells abc-7 she told officials at chaparral high school about the inappropriate contact a teacher was allegedly making with her daughter since october of last year. but it was just last week when dona ana county sheriff’s investigators say they learned about the allegations. they say it was school officials who alerted them. that teacher has been placed on administrative leave. gadsden i-s-d officials couldn’t comment, because they say it’s a “personne matter.” the mother tells our new mexico mobile newsroom she’s upset because she says the school ignored her concerns: “i’m afraid. because there migh be other victims out there. they had plenty of time to do something about it when i spoke to them back in october.” district officials say they’re unaware of the timeline of the allegations and if the mother complained last year. no charges have been filed. after almost a year and a half a teenage in dona ana county is behind bars, charged with second degree murder. 19-year-old lawrence lucero turned himself in after authorities say he withheld information about a deadly fight he was in back in october of 2014. he’s accused of stabbing two men when a fight broke out at a home on the 52-hundred block of bravo road. authorities say 17- year-old david escamilla was stabbed during a house party. his friends took to him to a las cruces hospital — but he later died. lawrence lucero’s friend ismael montoya was arrested a week after the fight. he, too, was charged with second degree murder and aggravated battery. a few months later, investigators say they saw text messages that show it was lucero who used the knife in the fight, not montoya. el paso city representative larry romero is steping down because of health issues… but it looks like he still may have some work to do. so far romero has not officially submitted his resignation in writing … but city rep. michiel noe said the mayor confirmed the resignation. it comes during an ethics investigation of romero’s actions while in office – and after he suffered a stroke in december. when the resignation is submitted – city council will have eight days to approve or deny it. if it is accepted – ethics commissioner stuart schwartz says the ethics investigation of romero will no longer continue. but the commission hopes that health permitting — he will continue to voluntarily cooperate with the on-going investigation of city manager tommy gonzalez: “”even though he is resigned h can still sit on council till he is replaced. but if he truly resigned because of health issues he probably won’t sit. if that is the reason he can’t do it. ” city rep carl robinson told us he met with romero – and he says romero’s health is improving. the first in the nation new hampshire primary is just three days away and tonight the republicans presidential candidates will debate right here on abc. abc’s kenneth moton is in new hampshire to show us it’s a busy weekend for all the contenders in the 2016 race. it’s the final push for support in new hampshire. sot donald trump i don’t want anything, just want your vote. but donald trump was in south carolina?kept out of the granite state due to bad weather, still bitter about this loss to ted cruz in iowa. sot trump i don’t think i did come in second. i think i came in first, ok? i’ll be honest. the winter storm didn’t keep the other candidates off the new hampshire trail. nat of volunteers “it’s a nice day for campaigning!” thei supporters were on the ground walking door to door. nat barbara bush: “we need your vote.” even year old former first lady barbara bush braved the treacherous conditions for her son before tonight’s gop debate hosted by abc news. nat bernie, bernie, bernie overnight, bernie sanders got a rock star reception at this democratic fundraiser in manchester. hillary clinton was also there undeterred by recent polls which show the neighboring vermont senator with a whooping lead for tuesday’s first in the nation primary. sot hillary clinton new hampshire has never quit on me, and i’m not going to quit on you. clinton who is working to woo sanders’ young supporters has 3 events people are dead — including an infant and small children — after an earthquake hit taiwan this morning. surveillance video shows the exact moment the 6-point- 4-magnitude earthquake struck. the quake damaged several buildings and brought down a 17-story residence in tai-nan city. officials say upwards of 340 people were trapped and had to be rescued from the damaged buildings. more than 300 people were sent to the hospital while over 100 others are still unaccounted for. it’s superbowl weekend and the denver police are hoping to avoid a replay of the 19-98 games when fans got out of hand. the denver police released a commercial, hoping to get their message out: “be a bronco, don’t be a donkey.” they’re talking abou when the broncos won over the green bay packers and fans went crazy… overturning cars, setting fires, breaking windows, and performing unauthorized high wire acts over larimer square. “it’s very important to us that everybody be able celebrate in a safe environment and
