Canutillo ISD to discuss closing schools for Pope Francis’s visit

The Canutillo Independent School District will discuss possibly closing for the pope’s visit.

Canutillo’s school board was weighing whether or not to switch president’s day, which is a holiday, with the papal visit.

Two previous motions failed. Initially, the district said schools wouldn’t be affected because there are no road closures within the boundaries of the district.

So far YISD, EPISD, Socorro ISD and San Elizario ISD will close for the day. The item will be discussed during Monday’s school board meeting.
