City to hold amnesty period for unpaid tickets, warrants
If you owe any unpaid tickets or warrants, the City of El Paso will soon cut you a break.
City officials announced an amnesty period beginning February 22 through March 5.
Lilia Worrell with the El Paso Municipal Court thirty percent of the collection fee will be waived on any unpaid ticket, including unpaid warrants.
For traffic tickets, people can avoid paying the delinquency fees up to $60 per ticket.
Worrell said people will just have to pay for the citation itself.
The last time El Paso held an amnesty week was in 2013. In a two-week period, more than $4.2 million was collected.
“This is a chance for people to pay their tickets and close the case. They won’t have to worry about getting arrested,” said Worrell.
After the amnesty period, the police department will conduct a warrant round-up.
Worrell said the city has more than $62 million in outstanding, unpaid warrants.
In parking tickets, more than $52 million has not been paid.
