big news in high school football… longtime montwood coach chuck veliz is retiring.. veliz coached montwood for 14 years and was at del valle before that… all in all… he spent 30 years as a coach… his team had one of the more inpressive turnarounds in the state… a year after winning one game, veliz led montwood back to the playoffs last season … eastwood hc julio lopez and his three brothers played for veliz… “a guy like coach veliz, yo want to celebrate everything he did. not just for montwood, but he raised the expectation level for all football in el paso with what he did at del valle and montwood… for the ex players and the people who have gone through the program over the last ten- plus years, i think it’s weird that montwood football won’t be associated with coach veliz anymore.” veliz was a head coach for 18 years…. he won 134 games during his career with del valle and montwood…
