Eastwood to honor 1976 state champs

a now a dentist here in el paso. and our very own darren hunt. welcome … does it seem like 40 years ago? what do you remember about the championship game against john tyler? i read that more than a thousand people from el paso traveled to that game … what was the response by el pasoans when you returned after taking the state title? what do you miss most about coach lesley? what are the plans for celebrating this 40- year piece of history? the troopers defeated ysleta high in bi- district, then beat sam houston and wichita falls in the regional finals to advance to the final four. after overcoming victoria, 67-65, in the semifinals, they defeated john tyler in the championship game, 74-62, at the university of texas at austin. eastwood, coached by the late/great bobby lesley, finished an amazing 35-and-3 that season. lesley, who the eastwood gym is now named after, died last year. among the players from that team were future utep miners tim crenshaw and jim bowden. time now for a preview of abc-7 at 5
