HS Boys Hoops: Bowie Beats Canutillo

The Bowie Bears beat Canutillo 57-35 at Bowie High School on Friday night and denied the Eagles a playoff berth…at least for now.

Canutillo needed a win and a Chapin loss to clinch a spot in the 5-A playoffs. They got the Chapin loss they needed, but were unable to overcome a stifling Bowie defense.

Bowie jumped out to an early lead and led by nine at the break before blowing the game open in the second half.

Bowie improved to 13-2 in District 1-5A play. Meanwhile, Canutillo fell to 8-7.

The Eagles will next play Chapin on Tuesday at Canutillo in the team’s final regular season game with a playoff spot on the line.

Bowie will close out its regular season against Burges on Tuesday. Burges currently has a one-game lead over Bowie in the district.
