Antonin Scalia dies in Marfa

abc-7 at 10 weekend. i’m estela casas. and i’m rick cabrera. abc-7 reporter darren hunt — who broke the story nationally — joins us live to tell us how he got word supreme court justice antonin scalia had died. rick & estela, my wife and i received a call from a member of her family at about two this afternoon … that family member told us he was on a hunting trip with scalia near marfa and the 30-year justice had died in his sleep overnight. that family member, who did not want us to share his name publicly, told us he was with scalia at cibolo creek ranch just outside of marfa. he said scalia left washington d-c at 6 a-m yesterday and he spent the whole day quail hunting with him. during dinner, he said, scalia did not complain about anything, but indicated he was a bit tired and went to bed. his body was discovered this morning. reporter live elizabeth o’hara, spokeswoman for the el paso catholic diocese, told us a priest was summoned from 30 miles away in presidio to perform the traditional rites for scalia this afternoon. sunset funeral homes in northeast el paso tells us they will receive the body overnight and will prepare it for the trip back home, to washington. justice scalia was staying at cibolo creek
