Las Crucens gather to remember baby Brianna’s birthday

Las Crucens are gathering at the Dona Ana Cemetery on Sunday to remember baby Brianna Lopez, who would have turned 14 years old.

Over 60 people from across New Mexico celebrated her life.

Baby Briana Lopez was killed after being beaten, bitten, burned and raped by her own family in 2002.

The baby’s mother, Stephanie Lopez was sentenced to 27 years in prison. However, after serving half of her sentence Lopez is scheduled to be released on September 9.

New Mexico’s deputy director of adult prison’s says Lopez must be released by law. She has fulfilled her required time in prison and upon her release, she will be placed on parole. If she violates parole she will return to prison to serve an additional two years.

Brianna’s father, Andy Walters and her uncle, Stephen Lopez were sentenced to more than 50 years in prison.
