Young Achievers gives kids a taste of college

under- priviligied students a look at life with higher education. abc-7’s andrew j. polk was there, and has this story: :08 :32 :41 a thousand six graders flooded the central part of the utep campus saturday … to learn more about the possibilities and challenges of getting a college education. “well, this is the fifth year that community en accion has sponsored the young achievers forum. what the whole intent here is to put kids in touch with their greatness. we want to give them a day of inspiration, motivation and education so they can realize their potential.” the students from across the region and as far away as fort stockton, are taken in groups through different classroom settings to learn more about how to realize the goal of college and beyond. “well, i’ learning about like what i want to be, like, what i want to be when i grow up and what i want to do… i want to be a writer.” “not just f students, but for parents as well – learning about the possibilities of college, how to make it work, and how to pay for it.” “for the parents, it helps to find out about financial aid.” about 200 parents were brought to utep as well to find out more about loans, financial aid, and of course scholarships. “i’ve been saving up, but i would love for them to qualify for a scholarship!” andrew j. polk, abc-7. after months of hard work, students
