Inside look at the voice behind the mic for UTEP Hockey

When it comes to a home advantage, the UTEP Miners Hockey Club is at the top of the pack.

Wil Herren was the announcer for the club’s inaugural season, and said he loves the hockey atmosphere.

“You definitely want the other team to know they are playing the Miners,” Herren said. “Every time that they have to play the Miners it’s gonna be a little tougher where they normally play and if I can give them that advantage that rocks.”

Herren said he tries to fire up the crowd the best of his ability to help the Miners on the ice perform at a higher level.

“It’s just awesome I guess to hear the fans yell back,” Herren said.”It’s the best when they kinda join in and they know that you are getting everyone fired up.

The Miners went 12-11 their first year and they are slated to retake the ice next October, right alongside Herren behind the microphone.
