Major freeway closure begins at 3 a.m.

we’re only 5 hours away from a complete freeway shutdown on el paso’s west side. crews will be shutting down both east and westbound lanes between executive and sunland park drive. the closures start at 3 a.m. but with spring break activitivites planned and a major event going on–the closure is likely to cause some traffic headaches. abc-7’s jerry najera is live with an abc-7 traffic alert… evan, josie. it will be a fairly short three mile stretch of freeway that can possibly cause hours of delay: “best advice is to start earl especially if you have events coming into the utep area” eddie gutierrez of el paso electric tells abc-7 the shutdown will allow crews to work on neaby power poles. “for thi particular project it is two transmission lines, very heavy poles and lots of lines we’ve got to move” “we’v actually been preparing for about a month now” transmission supervisor art tellez tells us exactly why they need to shut freeway down to work on the poles and lines. “in doing so we ar going to span the interstate from one side to the other so in order to do it safely we need all traffic stopped” the closure will begin at 3 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. from sunland park to executive center and paisano which would serve as an alternate route…is also going to be closed! that’s so el paso electric crews can do prep work for the new loop 375 expansion. so that leaves mesa street…and with the monster truck show starting at 2 p.m. which by the way draws up to 40 thousand people… “chaos” “jamm “it’s going to be chaos” b preppared and plan ahead. and wait there’s more.. for those of you headed to work monday morning san antonio at kansas street near the courthouse avenue will be closed off for two weeks. they are working underground utilities for the street car project thunder pic and if you’ll be in the utep area starting monday 2 eastbound lanes on hawthorne avenue near schuster will be closed for a week to replace a water line . and of course we’ll have all this online on kvia.com so you can check out the maps and see if you’ll be affected. we have new information on a crash involving 6 cars in
