Fire destroys mobile home; Woman was burning weeds

a reminder tonight why you should never under estimate the power of fire. a woman says she was trying to burn some weeds… and now she’s without a home. it happened just before 1 o’clock on the 3-thousand block of old picacho road just west of las cruces. tonight, we hear from the man who saved her life! abc-7’s jamie warren is live from our new mexico mobile newsroom. jamie? if you take a look behind me you can see flames ripped a part a huge whole in this shed. there could have been some serious injuries but thankfully no one was hurt neighbors stood in disbelief as they watched the entire property go up in wild flames. firefighters working as quickly as they could to put it under control. a sheriffs spokeswoman says the elderly woman who lived there was burning weeds in her yard when a tree caught fire. one neighbor tells us she tried to fight the flames herself with a hose, until he pulled her away. no one was hurt but we were there as crews went to rescue the woman’s cat that needed to be put on oxygen. officials say the nice breeze today combined with dry brush is what resulted in disaster “put verbatim here” dami mendez, pulled woman away from flames i will send sots in a minute these are the cgs ray nieto, neighbor that woman was too traumatized to speak with us on camera today. we still dont have a dollar amount on how much was lost. abc-seven and tex-dot with live traffic coverage tonight.
