ABC-7 obtains 911 tape of Dona Ana County homicide

On Thursday, our New Mexico Mobile Newsroom obtained the emotional 911 tape the night sheriff’s deputies say 33-year-old Jose Lopez Perez was murdered.

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Vernon Clark on one count of second degree murder in February.

DASO says it happened outside Perez’s home on the 2100 block of Rocca Secca, north of Las Cruces.

On the tape, you can hear who is believed to be Perez’s girlfriend in an absolute panic screaming for help. At one point, a neighbor even offers to pray with her.

Over the phone a neighbor says, “She’s saying that her boyfriend is dead by a truck and her mother-in-law is inside the house.”

The dispatcher asks, “How did they kill him? Who killed him?”

Perez’s girlfriend screams, “Vernon killed him! He threw a bar.”

Clark is currently at the Dona Ana County Detention center being held on a $250,000 secured bond. He’s expected to appear in court on Monday.
