City Rep wants city to stop paying Romero
from city hall. that’s because of state law. but at least one city rep. wants to find a way to stop paying romero. here’s the story only on abc-7: 12-24 01:21 i just don’t think it’s right and it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense that he continues to collect a paycheck even though he resigned, state law mandates romero remain on holdover status until his seat is filled – meaning he’s still getting paid. 00:57 it looks like council does not have a lot of authority for removing a member due to the holdover clause but as far as him receiving a paycheck i think there could be some room in the charter the city charter allows for someone serving on a city board to be removed if they have three unexcused absences. city rep. claudia ordaz asked the city attorney to check if the city could use that clause to stop paying romero. 00:03 that’s really at the council’s discretion to excuse or not so far the council has been excusing romero’s absences as a matter of regular business – when approving consent agendas. but that could change. 02:30 it’s up to every council member weather we want to excuse a member or not and speaking for myself for me i just don’t think it’s right and this week we learned romero is asking to be excused. 00:05 and he has made that request himself to be excused today? yes i received it from his office. a city spokeswoman says romero is still getting city pay in a direct deposit and is still receiving city pay. the city attorney is expected to brief council at its next meeting.
