EPFD responds to early morning house fire in central El Paso

The El Paso Fire Department responded to a house fire early Monday morning on the 3400 block of Gateway West near Copia Street.

Firefighters were dispatched at 3:08 a.m.

EPFD spokesman Carlos Briano said at least five calls were made to 911 as flames took over the home.

Fire crews arrived to heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.

“The firefighters started to simultaneously look for people inside while they were fighting the fire,” said Briano.

A woman living in the home managed to get out before the fire department arrived, no injuries were reported.

A total of 10 units and 25 personnel from EPFD responded to the incident.

At approximately 3:32 a.m. firefighters extinguished the flames, said Briano.

Damage to the home is estimated at $90,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials said the home had no working smoke detectors.
