After five carjackings in March, second suspect arrested
There’s been five carjackings just this month. A second man has been arrested in connection Wednesday.
That leaves three thieves, possibly more, at large. Lorenzo Abiel, 23, was arrested for aggravated robbery at a Northeast convenience store. St. Patrick’s Day a man sat in his car at a 7-11. Police say that’s when Abiel, asked for a ride.
The driver said no, Abiel allegedly pulled out a gun and forced the ride anyways.
Abiel’s arrest comes on the heels of four other carjackings. Vicente Favela, 35, was arrested after allegedly kidnapping a 55-year-old woman in East El Paso .
Police won’t release his picture, but we learned he has a storied criminal history with charges for drug possession, burglary and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Three others remain at large, including a carjacking at a Westside apartment complex, and two others near Global Reach.
Police say all the carjackers waved guns, forcing drivers to take them away from the scene under threat of death.
Although Abiel attempted to run from officers, Police said they, the Gang Unit and SWAT we’re on him from the start. He’s being held on a $25,000 bond. Additional charges are pending.
