Fast-acting 7-year-old likely helped save mother’s life during medical emergency
Easter Sunday was a just a normal day for Victoria Perez and her two daughters.
“I went to church and we had an Easter egg hunt,” said Chloe Salazar, Perez’s 7-year-old daughter.
The family came home from church and and enjoyed some grilled food like most on the holiday. Once everyone left, Perez started vacuuming.
“Then all of a sudden I just couldn’t breathe and my chest got tight,” Perez said.
As Perez was gasping for breath her daughter knew something was wrong.
“She was kind of scared, she started crying, she didn’t know what was wrong,” Perez told ABC-7.
Chloe said she was worried for her mother but remained calm.
“I was feeling a little scared but not really that scared,” Chloe said.
The young girl sprang into action and called 911.
“I told him that my mom couldn’t really breathe and then he said where do you live? and I told him,” Chloe said.
Once Chloe gave all her information to the operator she went out to the porch and waited for the ambulance to arrive.
“You don’t think you’ll go through something like that with your child because you don’t think it’s ever going to happen but I was just amazed at how great she handled it,” Perez said.
Chloe knew to dial 911 and knew her address, now her mom and family are calling her a hero.
“I think it’s cool that I did that,” said Chloe.
Perez’s health is better now.
It raises the question… does your child know the pass code to get into your phone?
Or do they understand you can make an emergency call without unlocking a phone?
It’s a conversation you can have with your young children. It can save your life.
