Las Cruces Public Schools: Bus-driver strike is over, for now
Students in the Las Cruces Public School District will be able to ride the bus on Friday.
A judge granted LCPS a temporary restraining order against Student Transportation Services and the Las Cruces Transportation Federation.
LCTF was threatening to strike after their contract with STS ended Thursday. Officials said they were forced to drive crowded buses and didn’t get enough sick days.
The TRO forces them to drive school buses for the next 10 days.
It states union members cannot go on strike and cannot picket on school district property.
It also states the contractor, STS, cannot terminate its contract with the school district, which lasts until June 30th.
After the 10 days are over, all parties will meet in court and a judge will decide whether or not to issue a permanent injunction.
LCPS says parents may have received a notice from the district, advising them to make different travel arrangements for Friday. They sent the letter out shortly before they received the news that the TRO was granted. They say that letter now, should be disregarded.
On Thursday, union representatives said they were disappointed, but will comply with court orders.
