april 3rd. abc-7’s “good morning el paso weekend” starts right now! good morning and thank you for joing us… i’m andrew j. polk. el paso police special traffic investigators are at the scene of a single vehicle in far east el paso . the crash happened around 2:30 sunday morning on the southbound access road next to loop 375 between pellicano and bob hope . our round the clock news crew was there and shot what is left of a car that appears to have rolled off the highway and landed in the front parking lot of a business. we’re told there was only one vehicle was involved. at this time we don’t know how many people were in the car or the extent of their injuries. taking a live look at the traffic in that area… …stormtrack weather now! let’s get your first forecast with stormtracker iris lopez increasingly warm temperatures and mostly sunny skies can be expected over the next several days. temperatures will climb back to near normal today …then back above normal for monday with lowland temperatures reaching into the 80s. light winds are expected today and monday…with breezy southwesterlies for tuesday. an upper level storm system will bring the chance of rain to the area late thursday into friday. protesters in brussels are calling for peace this morning. but police in brussels have detained and arrested at least two dozen of the protesters. the protesters were demonstrating at the place de la bourse — the site of a memorial to the victims of the brussels terror attacks. however the city has banned any form of protest this weekend. the main airport in brussels is set to partially reopen to passengers today, for the first time since the terrorists attacks on march 22nd. this is what the inside of the airport looked like after the deadly blasts on march 22nd. the airport’s c-e-o says there will be just three outbound flights today: to greece, italy and portugal. there will be no arriving flights. more flights will be added in the coming days. the explosions at the airport and subway system killed 32 people and injured more than three hundred others. abc-7 is still working to get more information on the cause of a borderland crash last night that sent a motorcyclist to the hospital. it happened on the 18-hundred block of mike hill around 9:30 last night. that’s by lee trevino and montwood drive. abc-7 brought this to you as breaking news last night. our crews were on the scene as special traffic investigators were still working. police tell us that the motorcyclist crashed into a parked vehicle. the driver of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital, but emergency crews would not tell us the condition or injuries of the driver. special traffic investigators are usually only called out to wrecks with serious injuries, however. as soon as we get more information we will be sure to update you. two people were hospitalized after a jeep crashed into a rock wall. it happened at five yesterday afternoon on the 12-thousand 900 block of eastlake in horizon. sheriff’s officials say the driver of the jeep was heading west on eastlake when he changed lanes and clipped a truck. that’s when the driver lost control of the jeep and crashed into a rock wall. two people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. the crash is still under investigation. we’re just 3 days into april and juarez is off to violent start of the month. two men and three women were found dead in southeast juarez friday after the house they were in exploded … marking the first violent crime of april 2016. abc-7 reporter julio- cesar chavez was in juarez, with more on this story: “se miraba todo normal, com siempre” a neighbor says when she got home from work around midnight everything looked normal, just like every night. things would soon change. around 3 am she and other neighbors woke up to see this house in flames “pero ya pr?cticamente no s pod?a hacer nada” by the time they got out there nothing could be done. juarez newspaper el norte says witnesses saw a burned man run out of the house yelling for help before he escaped the scene. inside the five bodies would later be found, each tied up and riddled with stab wounds. a source close to the investigation says the killings may be tied to the drug trade. it seems the victims were in debt and may have been dealing crystal meth. investigators say the explosion was a result of a purposely- opened gas tank that was ignited. just standing on the sidewalk you can see the window that used to be here blown away by the explosion. and inside what appears to be the living room, everything completely burnt. the friday explosion shaking up a quiet neighborhood. “el muchacho apenas hab?a acabado de llegar” one of the men had barely lived there about a month, and two of the women had only been seen for a couple of weeks before friday’s attack. one woman is dead after a small plane crashed into a car on a southern california freeway. witnesses say the plane crash-landed on its belly and plowed into the trunk of a car stopped on the side of the highway about 50 miles north of san diego. the pilot and his passenger each suffered major injuries in the crash. a woman in the back of the car died at the scene. fire officials say the impact of the crash nearly pushed the rear bumper all the way into the back passenger area. witnesses say they knew something was wrong when they saw the plane flying too low: “look like at first it was goin to try to come in, like maybe a belly landing here on the grass. but i think he realized the power poles and then the people out here, he ended up tipping back away towards the freeway.” it’s unclear if any charges will be filed. “natural sound” a ceremony to create love for our country, the american flag, and more. just some of the many activities hundreds of people got to enjoy at the couple and family expo. the event started at 11 yesterday morning and ran until 6 in the evening. it was the first take you out to montwood high school. its student council held operation prom. students have been collecting gently used prom dresses to help girls who might not be able to afford one. there were hundreds of styles and colors to choose from. the costs can really add up especially for students. so this really helps take ease some of the stress from the biggest worry a girl might have that night . “its helped me a lot. i think it’s very generous that people are donating and giving other girls the opportunity of going to prom.” other el paso schools, as well as businesses and churches have also been pitching in with donations of their own. operation prom also provides accessories and is available to any girl in town… the el paso independent school district is looking at reinventing the whole district. according to our news partners at el paso inc, some of the proposals are to expand the international baccalaureate program to austin high school, and three middle schools: richardson, morehead and lincoln. the superintendent said “one of our core mandates is that your zip code is not going to determine the quality of your education in episd” all this would cost the district a 300
