Students participate in mock crash at Mayfield High School

Several emergency crews and first responders were called to the scene of a mock crash involving students from Mayfield High School onThursday.

One student was pronounced dead on the scene. Others were critically injured.

The mock scene was one that has been recreated annually as a part of the “Shattered Lives” program of Doa Ana County, sponsored and coordinated by the Doa Ana County Teen Court.

This year’s program involved approximately 30 students from MHS.

The event is intended to reinforce the message to teens that drinking and driving carries serious consequences for the entire community.

FollowingThursday’s mock crash, students will gather in the gymnasium at MHS onFridayto be reunited with their classmates who were chosen to exemplify the “Shattered Lives”message.
