breaking news from our new mexico mobile newsroom… the man accused of leading police on a chase across state lines… and stealing a car at gunpoint in el paso — is on the run once again this morning! more clues into the missing malaysia flight that disappeared almost two years ago — more pieces that could possibly belong to the plane are found. he may say he doesn’t need them — but donald trump is scheduled to meet with g-o-p leaders later today. a very good morning el paso, las cruces, and juarez. i’m stephanie valle. and i’m hillary floren. good morning, everyone. after las cruces police say the man who led them on a chase over the weekend … got away again! this is 24-year-old michael derby. las cruces police say they tried to pull him over on sunday… but he led them on a chase and got away to el paso. in el paso… police say he stole an s-u-v at gunpoint… and then returned to las cruces. he lead police on another chase — which ended in a crash. that crash sent derby to memorial medical center in las cruces. last night… authorities say derby escaped from the hospital! good morning el paso’s denise olivas is at m-c in las cruces and has the latest … from our new mexico mobile newsroom. police say 24-year old michael derby was being treated at memorial medical center in las cruces when he took off. they say he stole a truck that was pulling a horse trailer with three horses inside. the truck, trailer along with the horses has been recovered by police. if you see him, call police. derby is described as 5″11″,181 pound with a tattoo of skull on the back of his calf. he has short hair and a light goatee. derby was arrested on sunday after a lenghty chase with police in both las cruces and el paso. in las cruces he is charged with aggravated assault … fleeing from a law enforcement officer … and having a stolen vehicle. in el paso — he’s charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery. more breaking news overnight. new details in the mystery of malaysia airlines flight 370. that’s the plane that vanished without a trace more than two years ago. officials are now confirming two pieces of debris just found — were part of the 777. abc’s lauren lyster has the details. these images just released… this partial rolls-royce stencil from the covering of an aircraft’s engine and this interior panel from the main cabin of a plane “almos certainly” coming from malaysian airlines flight 370, according to austrialian government? two new clues found in the mysterious disappearance of the aircraft…two years after it vanished from the sky on its way from kuala lumpur to beijing…taking its 239 passengers down with it… the pieces of debris …found here…in south africa and on this island off of mauritius… in all — this makes five pieces of the jet recovered — just a few months ago. sot darren chester, australian transport minister “a piece of metal has been found in the order of a meter long” … an american tourist discovering these parts — also deemed almost certainly from the plane–on a beach in mozambique and last year, it was this barnacle covered wing found on france’s remote reunion island sot sister “we want closure. we nee closure. we seek and cry for closure.” in th search for clues…grieving families…still donald trump is meeting with party establishment. he has said he doesn’t need the support of house speaker paul ryan or the other top republicans who are leery of him. but trump tells fox news — if they make a deal after this, it “will be great.” but the presumptive gop presidential nominee says if nothing can be worked out he’ll “trudge forward.” we’ll have more about the meeting later today coming up in just a bit on good morning el paso. / oil tycoon t. boone pickens is a fan of donald trump… he even supports trump’s controversial plan to ban muslims from entering america. speaking at the salt hedge fund conference in las vegas pickens told a reporter he’d “cut muslims off until we can figure out who they are.” pickens says he plan to donate to trump’s campaign… and he isn’t worried about economic consequences of banning muslims. the remains of the navy seal killed in iraq last week have returned to california’s naval base. petty officer first class charles h. keating the fourth was killed battling is forces. private memorial services for keating are set for tomorrow. the navy is asking the public to line the procession route — as his remains are driven to the national cemetery. the navy says keating will be posthumously promoted to chief petty officer. u-s marshal robert almonte has been placed on administrative leave. that’s according to media outlets in san antonio. last year, we reported he was under investigation by the department of justice. he allegedly paid for unauthorized traing presentations and failed to report the income or reimbursement. he’s also accused of using subordinates for non-government related business. we reached out to almonte for a comment — but have yet to hear back. 6-07… weather and traffic on the 7s… a front pushing in from the northeast will lower temperatures slightly today and allow moisture to increase over the next few days. meanwhile high pressure will build overhead and keep temperatures above normal through the weekend. the additional moisture will fuel the development of thunderstorms across the area, especially east of the rio grande and over higher terrain friday and saturday. dry southwest winds will push the moisture away to the east on sunday, with sunday and monday being on the windy side. now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… traffic cams… to an abc-7 traffic alert for northeast el paso. happening today … there will be a complete closure of us-54 north between the kenworthy overpass and sean haggerty. the kenworthy entrance ramp will also be closed. this closure will begin at 9 this morning, and last until noon. this will be going on throughout the entire week. we still have much more to come here on gmep… el paso police are investigating a stabbing that happened in central el paso.. the latest details. plus, how authorities managed to get this guy down after he decided to climb on an iconic radio tower. / and this is abc-7, where news comes first!
