ABC-7 Listens 05.15.16
the borderland. if you haven’t heard u- tep head basketball coach tim floyd and k-r-o-d sportstalk host steve kaplowitz trading barbs … where have you been? here’s rick cabrera with abc-7 listens. wow! that was my first reaction after hearing coach tim floyd and radio host steve kaplowitz verbally attacking each other. “don’t shake your head. you know i’m dead ass right. that’s wrong and you are classless for saying that.” the verbal jousting that went on for nearly 10 minutes. to see the entire news conference … go to k-v-i-a dot com and search floyd in the top right search bar. as you might imagine … our viewers are choosing sides. some backing kaplowitz. franciso writes … “all i know was in the six year he’s been here we have not had a tournament win nor have we done anything decent in any sort of postseason tournament.” dave add … “all the coaches are good except floyd. time to pack up and leave. let’s get a real coach who can win!!!” and from pete … “huge props to kappy for no backing down, floyd hasn’t done jack here yet he acts like he has achieved a lot.” but don’t think for a second that coach floyd doesn’t have his backers. arturo writes … “its time t back floyd. coaching at a mid-major in a one bid conference makes it hard to bring in and keep good players. i have got your back, coach floyd.” jaime add … “tim floy is great for utep and i’m a season ticket holder. i see the games and and if a kid can’t make a shot, make a layup or get a rebound, it isn’t always the coaches fault. kap is a fool.” an martin isn’t pulling any punches … “kaplowitz is a joke! i’m glad coach finally let him have it!” the main point of contention was players transferring from u-tep. floyd has had more than his fair share … which was kaplowitz’s argument … but as floyd statistically pointed out … it’s happening more and more across the country. frankly, i can see both sides … and i’m sure neither is happy with how the exchange played out. because clearly … regardless of what side you are on … it wasn’t either one’s finest moment. rick cabrera. abc-7 listens.
