i’m his publicist, joey pepperoni. no, i’m not donald trump, this is just what classy people sound like.” hillary clinton in kentucky has got her hands full–attacking sanders for his vote against the auto bailout?while striking trump on foreign policy. sot clinton: aptn2345 : what you hear from donald trump is not just offensive, it is dangerous reporter tag: clinton will be making her case again today in kentucky which holds its primary tomorrow. bernie sanders campaigns in puerto rico. megan hughes, abc news, washington. today is the start of early voting for the primary runoff election. one of the big races will be for the el paso district attorney. : el paso typically has a voter turnout problem — with the percentage of eligible voters participating in single digits — in years without a presidential candidate on the top of the ticket. now that the presidential nomination process seems to be winding down — there’s concern that people just won’t turn out come november. numbers from the county elections department paint an interesting picture of voter behavior this time around so far. there were just shy of 10 thousand voters in the primary that had not voted since 2007, or had never voted before. for more information, you can click on the link over on our website, k-v-i-a dot com. a mjaor development in the el paso streetcar project begins today. and that means a traffic alert for drivers. good morning el paso’s denise olivas is live with the details … denise? crews will begin laying the track for the nearly five-mile route. if you use oregon– we do want to let you know that it will be down to one lane in each direction from glory road to university avenue. this is where the streetcars will run southbound toward downtown. the trackwork will be done in zones– which will consist of several blocks– just like this one. this portion will take several months to complete. crews will remove all existing pavement– level the ground– lay and weld rail segments which are about 540 feet long– then our concrete slab arount the track it’ll take about two to three weeks for the concrete to set. other closures to expect– oregon and cincinnatti will be closed to east-west traffic. as will oregon and robinson– these closures will last through mid-august. two separate investigations are in full swing — to determine the cause of a weekend bus crash that killed eight people. a spokesman says national transportation safety board investigators will look at the operations of the charter bus company — including inspection and maintenance records. a texas state trooper says the department of public safety is conducting its own investigation. the injured driver hasn’t been interviewed yet. the crash is one of the deadliest bus accidents in texas in recent years. in january last year, two state corrections officers and eight inmates were killed near odessa. it happened when a texas department of criminal justice bus tumbled 20 feet off a highway bridge — and onto a moving freight train. the n-t-s-b concluded just last thursday that the wreck was caused by the bus hitting the guardrail. abc-7 has learned alcohol was not a factor in a deadly crash near deming over the weekend. it happened around 5-30 saturday morning on highway 26 between hatch and deming new mexico. new mexico state police say 33- year-old lourdes vacio and 12-year old janelly vacio died after their vehicle crashed head-on into another car. a passenger inside the same car and the driver of the second vehicle are at the hospital in critical condition. 6-07… weather and traffic on the 7s… borderland weather will remain variable and active through the week ahead with several features moving in and across the region. today an approaching pacific storm system will cause a breezy to moderately windy afternoon as much drier air moves in to give us sunny skies and seasonally warm temperatures. tuesday we remain dry as winds slacken a bit. on wednesday cooler air and moisture pushes back into the area to bring a cooler day with a return of showers and storms. now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… an abc-7 traffic alert. if you were dreading the closure of the carolina bridge this morning… you’ve been given a grace period of an extra week. tex-dot is delaying the closure until next monday. starting next week… the bridge between alameda and franklin drive will be shut down for demolition. a new bridge will be under construction for 11 months. good news if you are heading west. the arizona department of transportation says a 60-mile stretch of interstate 10 in southeastern arizona and southwestern new mexico has been reopened. it was shut down sunday evening after it had been closed because of blowing dust from a farm field. this stretch of i-10 has seen numerous closures in recent weeks, and the speed limit has even been reduced to 45 miles per hour. authorities blame the blowing dust on field that was plowed earlier this year near san simon, arizona. we still have much more to come here on gmep — hundreds are displaced from their homes after a large fire. what investigators say caused it. plus–a woman accidentally drives right into a body of water. she says she was given bad directions. who she says is to blame — and how the same could happen to you. and this is abc-7, where news comes first!
