Police identify motorcyclist killed after crashing into Sun Metro bus

Police identified the motorcyclist involved in a deadly crash with a Sun Metro bus Wednesday afternoon as Edward A. Stanton, 24.

The crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. near George Dieter and Bob Mitchell.

According to police, the driver of the bus, 57-year-old Jose Torres, was traveling south on George Dieter. Torres was making a left turn onto Bob Mitchell.

Police said the motorcyclist, Stanton, was traveling north on George Dieter “at a high rate of speed.”

Stanton allegedly “ran the red light at the intersection and struck the Sun Metro bus,” police said.

Paramedics rushed Stanton to Del Sol Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Torres and three passengers aboard the bus were not injured.

This is the 28th traffic death of the year compared to 22 this time last year, according to police.
