Carolina bridge reconstruction delayed
The Carolina bridge construction date has been pushed back yet again. Construction for the bridge was supposed to take place May 31, but has been delayed to at least June 7.
City representative Emma Acosta said it would be less stressful to start the demolition once school is out for the summer.
“I see a start date for the project around June 7,” Acosta said. “It will be easier once school is let out to avoid further congestion.”
But neighbors and students alike are still upset about the construction, because the alternate route is right near their neighborhood at the Cadwallader Drive railroad crossing.
The temporary re-opening of the Cadwallader Drive railroad crossing is being carried out as part of the Carolina Bridge Reconstruction project in order to provide emergency vehicles and the public an alternative route during the reconstruction of the Carolina Bridge.
“it’s a headache,” One neighbor said. “It’s a headache, and we are just like oh my god a year with this, it’s gonna be a mess.”
Construction is slated to start around June 7, although that date is not confirmed.
Once the project is complete, the Cadwallader rail road crossing will once again be closed permanently in order to re-establish the area a recognized quiet zone.
The Carolina Bridge Reconstruction project with an approximate budget of $7,848,000 is scheduled to be completed in approximately one year, and is part of the City of El Paso’s commitment to enhance El Paso’s regional transportation system.
