Tai Chan murder trial continues
fe deputy is accused of murdering martin at a las cruces hotel in 2014. abc-7’s jamie warren is following this trial for us inside the dona ana county district court. tonight, she’s live with our new mexico mobile newsroom … jamie, what’s happened since we last saw you at five? rick and estela, within the last hour a lieutenant testifying here in court admitted chan was denied his request for an attorney the night he was taken into custody. chan has showed no emotion throughout the trial, not even when an audio recording played of the confrontation he had with officers that night. the last witness this evening was lieutenant kacey mullins. he was asked if chan’s right to an attorney was denied while detained for a number of hours. mullins says he did deny the request because he says chan was a suspect in a murder investigation that was still underway. he added chan had also not been interviewed yet by a detective. sot kacey mullins lcpd lieutenant sir we’ve talked about the excited utterance. and what excited utterance would that be? of the “i had to do it, i killed my partner,” not verbati but to that affect that he hadn’t been directly questioned about his involvement in the homicide prosecutors say a close friend who saw the heated argument between chan and martin unfold only hours before he was killed will testify tomorrow. we’ll be here to here and update you on air and online at kvia.com lc nmmn jw abc7. and we are back in the courtroom tomorrow as the tai chan trial continues. jamie, thank you.
