Chihuahuas fight back to sweep four-game series with Sacramento
EL PASO, Texas – The El Paso Chihuahuas scored five late runs to come back and beat the Sacramento River Cats 7-6 Friday night at Southwest University Park. The Chihuahuas completed their second sweep of the season (May 14-17 vs. New Orleans) and their third home sweep over Sacramento in as many seasons.
Sacramento led 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh when the Chihuahuas scored three runs on a Hunter Renfroe sacrifice fly and a two-out, two-run bases loaded single by Ryan Schimpf. Manuel Margot hit a double in the bottom of the eighth inning and Alex Dickerson raced around from first base to score on the play at the plate. The River Cats argued the safe call and Sacramento manager Jose Alguacil was ejected.
The River Cats’ first batter in the ninth inning reached base but was left on by Chihuahuas’ reliever Jose Dominguez, who picked up his fifth save of the season. Margot went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and now leads the Pacific Coast League in runs with 44.
