Paisano to be closed for 8 months starting mid-June

The traffic headache throughout El Paso is about to get a lot worse, as a portion of Paisano will be closed for 8 months.

The closure will be from Sunland Park Drive to Executive Center Boulevard, which will take place on June 12, at 7 a.m.

The Border West Expressway project will provide an alternate route for I-10 and will address needed improvements to help with El Paso’s infrastructure.

This closure will allow the Border West Expressway team to finish it’s construction from Racetrack Drive to Spur 1966, which is expected to be completed by Fall 2017.

But one local business manager said this closure could hurt business badly. Jed Smith, the Chief Operations Manager with Rio Valley Bio Fuels, said it will affect their delivery routes.

“They will need to get the fuel to their stations on time,” Smith said. “And if the trucks are slowed down in traffic, they could stop picking up from me, and that’s going to have a huge impact on my business.”

Paisano should re-open in February of 2017.
