Chihuahuas fall to Sacramento in first game of homestand

EL PASO, Texas – The Sacramento River Cats scored in each of the first three innings in their 6-3 win over the El Paso ChihuahuasThursdaynight. It was Sacramento’s first win in El Paso in five tries this year.

The River Cats dropped in single runs in the first and second innings on RBI singles by Grant Green and Gorkys Hernandez. Sacramento sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the third, bringing home four runs, including one on an RBI single by pitcher Joan Gregorio, his second RBI hit in a week versus the Chihuahuas.

The Chihuahuas cut the deficit in half with a three-run fourth inning, with runs on a sacrifice fly by Nick Noonan and RBI singles from Manuel Margot and Carlos Asuaje. El Paso had promising rally attempts late, including loading the bases with no outs in the eighth, but the Chihuahuas did not score and lost their second straight game for the first time sinceMay 21-22.

Derek Eitel, Buddy Baumann, Michael Dimock and Daniel Moskos tossed scoreless outings out of El Paso’s bullpenThursday. Chihuahuas’ catcher Austin Hedges picked off Hernandez on a throw to second base in the ninth inning and Hernandez was ejected after arguing the call.
