the texas department of public safety is training its officers to better understand the challenges for drivers with disorders like autism or aspergers. dps officials say they understand that having a driver license can pave the way to independence for many with those disorders. they are encouraging drivers who have a developmental disability to make note of it on their driver license. the san antonio based organization aspergers 101 and dps created a pamphlet to let drivers know about the option here in texas. this will immediately alert an officer during a traffic stop– and possibly avoid miscommunication. adding the “communication impediment” to driver license is simple. a physician has to complete and sign the form dl 101– affirming the autism or speech disorder diagnosis. then at the dmv– the driver must fill out line 7 of the license application . the trial for a man accused of murdering a family back in 2012 is once again delayed. luis javier solis gonzalez has been charged with capital murder in the deaths of marysol saldivar, her boyfriend eric de santiago and her daughter, 13-year- old cassaundra holt. according to court documents, solis gonzalez strangled the girl, struck her mother on the head, and stabbed de santiago. investigators say solis gonzalez and saldivar’s 3-year-old son — saw the attack. the past 4 years — the family of the victims have been seeking justice — but several delays have slowed the process. now the assistant district attorney assigned to the case has been removed. a judge ruled that assistant d-a denise butterworth is disqualified from trying the case … because she was present during the interview of the three year-old who allegedly witnessed the crime. defense attorney joe spencer successfully argued that by being there … butterworth became a potential witness in the case. district attorney jaime esparza says he disagrees with the decision and plans to appeal it. an update on the cases surrounding the episd cheating scandal. the defense team for former episd associate superintendent damon murphy wants a change of venue. a motion filed in court describes the overwhelming amount of news media attention drawn by murphy’s case as “inflammatory and pervasive.” murphy allegedl gave marching orders to principals — to prevent certain students from advancing to the 10th grade — the year students take the taks test. currently murphy and five other former and current episd administrators accused of taking part in the cheating scheme have a trial date set for august 15th. 6-07… weather and traffic on the 7s… increasing moisture across the region will result in a more active weather southern new mexico residents could be soon seeing some relief from the arsenic problems in their water. “president obama is lending his support to hillary clinton and donald trump is already attacking on twitter, i’m abc’s meghan hughes i’ll have the latest in the race for the white house” and this is abc-7, where news comes first!
