Police arrest couple for allegedly staging aggravated robbery at 7-11
Police arrested a 7-11 clerk and her fiance after the clerk allegedly filed a false police report stating she had been robbed at gunpoint.
Officers responded to the staged aggravated robbery at the 7-11 store at 2955 George Dieter on June 1, 2016. The clerk at the store was 18-year-old Shakina Edwards, police said.
Officers nearby stopped a woman matching the general description of the suspect at an apartment complex near the 7-11. It turned out to be the clerk’s fiance, 21-year-old Shelia Gilliam of Fort Bliss. The officers let Gilliam go.
Later that night, police officers at the scene of the robbery obtained still photographs of the alleged robber. Officers who previously encountered Gilliam at the apartment complex recognized her as the person in the photo.
Moments later, officers located Gilliam inside a parked vehicle at a nearby business changing clothes. Police allegedly found the money stolen from the 7-11 on the passenger floorboard.
Police arrested the clerk and her fiance. Edwards was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under bonds totaling $2,750. She is charged with ‘Theft Over $2,500’ and with ‘False Report to Police Officers.’
Gilliam was booked under a $2,000 bond charged with ‘Theft Over $2,500.’ Fort Bliss officials confirmed Gilliam is an active duty soldier stationed on post.
