Man Accused of Choking, Punching Girlfriend

Police arrested a man suspected of choking and punching his 38-year-old girlfriend during an argument Thursday evening.

Dimas Trevino, 42, of 2330 Nevada Ave., is charged with one count each of aggravated battery against a household member, false imprisonment and battery against a household member.

Trevino is suspected of sitting on top of the woman and choking her to the point where she nearly lost consciousness. Trevino is also suspected of punching the woman’s face multiple times.

Trevino’s brother witnessed much of the incident and tried to intervene on the woman’s behalf.

At some point, the woman was able to flee the residence and went to a neighbor’s home where she waited for police to arrive.

Trevino was arrested and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s initially being held without bond.
