Alamo Drafthouse launches children’s food menu
The Alamo Drafthouse has prided itself on being geared toward adults. The theater has a bar, and age restrictions allow theatergoers to enjoy the film experience without the distractions of children.
So, imagine the surprise that ABC-7 anchors Stephanie Valle and Hillary Floren felt when they were contacted by Alamo Drafthouse representatives to see if their children would be willing to taste test items on their new kids’ menu.
The theater opened its doors — and its kitchen — Monday afternoon, allowing the children to peruse a menu filled with items ranging from milkshakes to carrot sticks and hummus, from flatbread pizza to quesadillas with sweet potato and black beans. Of course, popcorn was also on the menu.
Oscar Garza, Alamo Drafthouse’s creative associate, told ABC-7 the goal is to offer healthier options that even the pickiest eaters can enjoy.
The food options for little fingers tie into a new kids’ movie camp being launched by the theater house for the summer.
“We are showing specially designed programming for kids,” Garza said. “We are showing movies like ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,’ ‘Curious George,’ ‘The Neverending Story’ and ‘The Lego Movie.’
“It’s just for them to get a different experience enjoying the kids movies.”
The summer camp schedule is posted on the Alamo Drafthouse website, which you can find here.
