Chihuahuas beat Albuquerque 2-1 in 13 innings Monday night
EL PASO, Texas – Hunter Renfroe’s RBI single in the bottom of the 13 th inning gave the El Paso Chihuahuas a 2-1 win over the Albuquerque IsotopesMondaynight at Southwest University Park. It was El Paso’s sixth walk-off win of the season and gave the Chihuahuas a 4-0 record in extra inning games.
Frank Garces allowed only one run in his six-inning start and the Chihuahuas then used six relievers, all of whom tossed scoreless outings. El Paso’s bullpen continues to shine in this homestand, with no runs allowed in four of the five games. Chihuahuas’ relievers retired 15 straight Isotopes for a stretch onMonday.
The Chihuahuas left a team record 18 runners on base, squandering multiple scoring opportunities, including loading the bases in both the sixth and seventh innings with one out without producing a run either time. The Chihuahuas had two pinch hits in the win, including a single by Ricardo Valenzuela, who came up in the bottom of the 13 th after not playing for six days and struck a single to keep the inning alive for Renfroe’s eventual walk-off hit.
Monday’s game was El Paso’s longest of 2016 and it tied three other 13-inning games for the longest in Chihuahuas’ history.
