Council takes no further action against city manager

City Council decided to take no action against City Manager Tommy Gonzalez after discussing a recent warning issued by the Ethics Review Commission.

Mayor Oscar Leeser said it is time for council to put this issue behind it.

“It is important, whether we agreed or disagreed with the rulings, that we uphold the rulings and move the city forward,” Leeser said. “We can’t continue to bring the same item over and over again because it’s not healthy for the city.”

Earlier this month, the Ethics Review Commission of El Paso handed Gonzalez a letter to warn him about a violation of the code of ordinances. Gonzalez approved the installation of speed humps without going through the proper channels.

City representative Lily Limon placed the item on the agenda and said she wanted to know where everything stood when it came to Gonzalez.

The council discussed the commission’s ruling behind closed doors.

Leeser also said that he will continue to update the Gonzalez performance improvement plan once a month.
