Chihuahuas can’t complete comeback, fall 5-4 to Albuquerque
EL PASO, Texas – The El Paso Chihuahuas had two early leads Tuesday night against Albuquerque but lost to the Isotopes 5-4 at Southwest University Park. Alex Dickerson went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs in the loss.
The Chihuahuas scored twice in the first inning on RBI doubles by Dickerson and Casey McElroy. El Paso loaded the bases with no outs after those two doubles but did not score again in the inning. The Chihuahuas left 10 runners on base Tuesday, one night after stranding a team-record 18 baserunners in Monday’s win.
El Paso had a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning when the Isotopes rallied for three runs on four hits with two outs against Johnny Hellweg in his Chihuahuas debut. Trailing 5-3 in the seventh, Dickerson’s home run got El Paso within one. The Chihuahuas had a hit each in the eighth and the ninth but did not score.
The Chihuahuas turned two double plays Tuesday, with both coming to end Albuquerque innings with multiple runners on.
