Deputies arrest East El Paso shooting suspect in Horizon City

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man suspected of shooting a 22-year-old man in East El Paso back in May 21, 2016.

Jacob Chavez, 22, was pulled over while driving in Horizon City on June 13. He allegedly tried running away, but was captured shortly thereafter.

At the time, the El Paso Police Department’s GANG Unit had already secured a warrant for Chavez’s arrest on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Investigators said Chavez is suspected of being involved in a shooting on the 2600 block of Lake Spier, near Pebble Hills Blvd.

According to police, Chavez allegedly chased another man into a residence and fired several rounds, striking the victim’s arm and leg.

Chavez escaped before police arrived. EMS crews rushed the victim to an area hospital.

Police booked Chavez into the El Paso County Jail on a $200,000 bond. He is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Evading Arrest, and Possession of Marijuana.
