Man blamed for SWAT standoff in Far East EP allegedly pointed gun at woman
Investigators said the man responsible for Thursday’s SWAT standoff in a Far East El Paso neighborhood allegedly pointed a gun at a 38-year-old woman.
Eric Cardenas, 31, barricaded himself inside the home on the 14500 block of Spanish Point at about 5:30 a.m.
When officers arrived, they learned an eight-month-old child was inside the home. The SWAT team was able to successfully rescue the child, leaving Cardenas inside the house.
Outside the house, officers spoke with a 38-year old Hispanic woman who accused Cardenas of pointing a gun at her.
Police said Cardenas exited the home at approximately 8:30 a.m. He surrendered without incident. The baby and the woman were not injured and no shots were fired at the scene.
Cardenas is charged with Aggravated Assault/Family Violence and Interference with an Emergency Call.
He was booked in to the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $15,000 bond. Police are not releasing Cardenas’ mugshot yet.
