Mexican actor Ruben Aguirre dead at 82
Mexican actor Ruben Aguirre, known for his role as “Professor Jirafales” in the iconic comedy show “El Chavo del 8,” died Friday morning.
“My favorite professor rests in peace,” wrote actor Edgar Vivar, who played el “Seor Barriga” and “oo” in the popular Mexican show. “I will miss you very much.”
Aguirre died at 82 from pneumonia complications in his home in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico.
El Chavo del 8 was a Mexican sitcom that dealt with the daily lives of several people living in a low-income apartment complex. The show aired in between 1971 to 1980 and was popular throughout Latin America.
El “Profesor Jirafales” was an elementary teacher who frequented the complex to visit his love interest, “Doa Florinda.” The professor would often get into squabbles with the children living in the complex, including “El Chavo,” portrayed by Roberto Gomez Bolaos, a.k.a. Chespirito.
Aguirre’s funeral will be held in Puerto Vallarta.
Bolaos died in November 2014.
