ONLY ON ABC-7: Error forces students to retake SAT

A glitch is forcing dozens of students to retake the SAT this weekend.

ABC-7 learned that The College Board, the group that owns and administered the SAT on the weekend in question, gave students an outdated version of the test.

The notice came through an email on Tuesday.
The college readiness test that James Tift’s granddaughter took on June 4 is being thrown out.

“She tried three times at least to call and find out something,” Tift said.

Tift told ABC-7 that his granddaughter — an incoming senior at Coronado High School –wasn’t given a reason, only a makeup date.

“She has to take the test tomorrow morning, or wait until sometime in late October,” Tift said. “And by that time, she’ll be a senior and well into her year, and it’s a late result.”

Tift turned to ABC-7 to find out why the test was being disregarded.

EPISD officials told ABC-7 that The College Board, the organization that owns the test, administered an old, invalid test to students.

The College Board’s spokeswoman explained what happened in a statement emailed to ABC-7. It reads in part, “Some May test materials arrived after test day. The late delivery caused confusion, and those materials were mistakenly used during the June administration.

“As a result, June exams cannot be scored. … Students will receive scores from the makeup administration in time for early college application deadlines.”

“As smart as they’re supposed to be, it’d seem like they would know which test they’re supposed to be giving,” Tift said.

Tift said it’s more irritating that no one told his granddaughter why she had to retake the test.

“She studied very hard for the test, and worked hard and took it, and thought it was over,” he said.

Instead, she’s starting over, taking the test again on Saturday.
