Chihuahuas fall again Saturday night to lowly Sacramento
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Adalberto Mejia pitched seven shutout innings in his first Triple-A game of the season, as the Sacramento River Cats beat the El Paso Chihuahuas 6-1Saturdaynight at Raley Field. Mejia struck out eight and did not walk any Chihuahuas’ batters.
The River Cats scored quickly against El Paso lefthander Frank Garces when Sacramento outfielder Mac Williamson lined a three-run home run into the right field bullpen. Three innings later, Mejia hit a two-out RBI single against Garces to extend Sacramento’s lead. River Cats’ starting pitchers now have four RBI hits against the Chihuahuas this season.
The Chihuahuas had baserunners in each of the final three innings but settled for one run on Jason Hagerty’s pinch hit RBI double in the top of the eighth. Austin Hedges went 2-for-4 in the loss for El Paso, while Leonel Campos pitched two innings of scoreless relief.
Second place Las Vegas won in Salt LakeSaturday, cutting the Chihuahuas’ first place lead down to four games.
