Street Fest attendees face triple-digit temperatures
With temperatures hitting 108 degrees around 7 p.m., thousands of partygoers at the Street Fest knew hydration and staying cool was essential.
Most people at the Street Fest had one technique or another to stay cool in triple-digit temperatures.
“Oh it’s extremely hot,” Letty Avaro said.
Some people listened to some music under the shade.
For those working behind grills inside food trucks the temperatures were higher.
“It’s probably like 120 degrees in here,” food truck owner Eduardo Hermosilla said.
ABC-7 spotted some El Pasoans with spray bottles and straw hats.
“You got to keep the sun out of your face because you’ll get the sunburn,” Street Fest artist Diego Garcia said.
Others preferred some refreshments to stay cool.
“Right now I’m drinking a nice cold shock top,” one Street Fest attendee said.
Snow cone booths were quite popular.
“I’m from new Hampshire, the Texas heat is very different,” another attendee said.
Organizers of the Street Fest also opened the Abraham Chavez Theater for people to escape the heat.
“I’m staying right here. I’m drinking from this bar inside right now,” Frank Trejo said.
The festival also included a indoor car show, but a few spectators weren’t there just for the cars.
“I might be escaping the heat a little bit it’s pretty hot,” an attendee said.
And Saturday evening, the award for being most creative in keeping cool went to
Letty Evarro.
“My technique was to go buy a bandana to support the Orlando victims and I asked if I could fill it with ice,” Evarro said. “So I have ice filled in my bandana and it
is keeping me comfortably cool.”
ABC-7 talked to paramedics and they no one was treated for dehydration.
