COURT DOCUMENT: Couple’s guest angered when asked to leave, allegedly shot wife

A complaint affidavit obtained by ABC-7 identifies the victim of a shooting in Central El Paso Thursday as 41-year-old Graciela Correa.

Police said 33-year-old Bryant Mays Owens is in custody, charged with Criminal Attempted Murder, after allegedly shooting Correa in the forehead.

EMS crews rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

According to the document, Correa and her husband invited Owens to stay with them earlier this week because he was having problems with his girlfriend. The couple lives at an apartment on the 1000 block of Arizona.

Correa’s husband told police the first two days went by without any incidents, but on the third day, Owens began insulting his wife and they ended up getting into an argument.

Thursday afternoon, Owens walked into the couple’s bedroom and asked if he could stay with them a couple more days. Correa and Owens got into another argument when the woman told him he had to leave.

The husband told police he was getting up from his bed when he heard a loud sound. When he turned around, he allegedly saw Owens holding a gun and Correa on the bed bleeding from her head.

Police said Owens ran away but was found around 2:30 p.m. about three-blocks from the crime scene at an apartment on the 11000 block of Yandell Dr.

Owens is now booked in the El Paso County Jail on a $600,000 bond. He is charged with Criminal Attempted Murder.
