Businesses set up designated areas for fireworks on 4th of July
The borderland is gearing up for the 4th of July and since the county’s fireworks ban was lifted, you’re safe to pop fireworks outside of city limits Monday night.
Businesses in the unincorporated part of the county are setting up designated areas to celebrate.
El Paso residents normally flock to New Mexico to light up and pop off fire works, but after 5 years, residents like Daniel Guerra are glad they can finally celebrate in El Paso County. County commissioners lifted the ban on selling and setting off fireworks because the county was below a drought index of 575.
“It’s about time. I feel 5 years younger,” Guerra said.
Many are bracing for a busy night. That’s why the Far East Montana Vista Business Association has designated 5 parking lots for fireworks only.
The private lots are Montana Tires at 13900 Montana Lot B, East Montana Center, 14101 Montana Avenue; Sky Room Special Events Centre, 14801 Montana and Bobby’s lots, 14020 and 14030 Montana. Other lots are also being considered for additional parking.
Each lot will charge a $5 fee to park. They’ll be supervised by security guards and portable restrooms will be available. The association says if you park on Montana Avenue, you will be towed.
The county’s also adding unmanned barriers to neighborhoods off Montana Vista to try and keep all but residential traffic out.
