Annual school uniform swap can save parents money

The start of a new school year means more expenses for families across the borderland.

Some students will return to class in just a few weeks, which means parents will soon get a start on that supplies list.

The Horizon City Lions Club and the Socorro Independent School District team up again this year to hold the annual school uniform swap.

Parents are asked to collect all lightly worn uniforms that are in good condition and exchange them for a voucher at drop-off sites around the city.

On Saturday, July 16, families can pick up their new uniforms at Eastlake High School from 8:00am to 12:00pm.

School supplies and backpacks will also be distributed.

“It’s a great way to recycle, it’s for everybody. Income has no effect on it,” said Crystal Cholewa, a volunteer.

Families will receive the same number of uniforms they donated.

The event is said to help an estimated 1,000 students this weekend.

The uniform swap is open to the entire community. Walk-ins are welcome, but families with vouchers will have priority.

Below are the drop-off locations where parents can get a voucher:

Immunize El Paso
Rocky Mountain Radar
Laundry USA
