are expected to be met with tax incentives financing nearly half of that. abc-7’s darren hunt got a tour of the hotel today … he’s live with the latest on the renova plans … darren. rick/estela, we met with officials from the meyers group today, who hope to finalize the purchase of the hotel soon. they plan to begin the work in early 2017 and are pointing to early 2019 for completion. “we realize this hotel is one o the cornerstones to the area.” the vice president of the meyers group has big plans for the camino. his company is partnering with two sabes l-c to restore the 17-story hotel. “we want to restore it to its original grandeur and to make it a four and a half star hotel, all the luxurious amenities and really make it one of the nicest hotels in texas.” meyers said the camino still has the elements to be that. “one of the greatest amenitie is the dome and we’re gonna keep that exactly how that is, there is a bar currently underneath, we have some plans to maybe remove that bar.” this what the lobby looked like in 1912 when it opened. “when they built this hotel i was wood floors, it was very art deco, it was so 20s, roaring 20s.” “there are plans to restore the hotel’s historic ballroom and terrace where guests used to gather in the early 1900’s to watch the mexican revolution.” “the vision is there and we are going to do something truly amazing.” cito beguiristain i v-p of planning and development for the meyers group. he pointed out the ballroom used to look like this, before being turned into a mechanical room. “we have two historic architects, who we hired separately, for the purpose of making sure we do it right … the guy who originally did this historic hotel he did it well … everybody in el paso has had at least two events that they’ve done here, a wedding, a prom, whatever, so this is such a part of el paso so we take responsibility for that, we’re very excited about it and we look forward to doing the right thing and making this as amazing as we can.” there are also plans to add a first floor pool, renovate the 10th floor pool, add a spa … and completely replace all the furniture and bathroom fixtures. estela. a lot of us are anxious to see what the camino real can be transformed into. it’s a big effort. darren thanks. if you are just joing us … you’re probably aware of just how hot it is
