Burger Time Golf Tournament raises $251,000 for Las Cruces high schools

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The 23rd annual Burger Time High School All Activities Tournament raised $251,000 that will go toward funding local high schools sports teams, clubs, and other organizations.

The tournament’s founder, Kevin McGrath, presented the check today at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum.

“I just love it, I really do. My committee loves it, my board loves it. When you look at the success that this community brings back to make our athletic programs successful, it’s just so gratifying,” said McGrath, who started the tournament more than two decades ago in part to help Las Cruces teams compete with better-funded competition in Albuquerque.

McGrath says it’s yet another example of Las Cruces coming together to help fund a good cause.

“I can’t explain it. When you look at the income per capita in Las Cruces compared to the whole state, it’s amazing how much money this community contributes to necessary causes,” he said.
