El Pasoans pray for fallen officers

Dozens gathered at the El Paso Police Department headquaters to pray for the officers who were killed in Dallas last week.

Former mayor John Cook helped organize the vigil.

Thursday’s vigil was fairly short but some that ABC-7 spoke
with said it creates a sense of family.

Close to 60 El Pasoans showed up in support of the five officers that lost their lives in the Dallas shootings last week.

The vigil started with a moment of silence, then a prayer while all of those who attended held hands.

Members of the group ended the vigil filling the police headquarters with the song “Amazing Grace.”

Cook said with everything going on right now people need to look to God for answers.

“Around the world right now I don’t see world leaders asking God to intervene in all the senseless violence and terrorism that’s going on. They are trying to find way to legislate and reinforce, but they need to
ask God to intervene,” Cook said.

Cook went on to say the community and police have to work together to form a stronger bond during these times.
